THOUGHTS: My father, who was also an artist, felt that most things could be fixed with a good coat of paint. Once he and my mother were going to Victoria to quite a fancy dress up affair. My father was a large man and he only had one pair of work shoes and one pair of dress shoes. If he needed a pair of shoes it was a real task as most stores did not carry his size. Anyway, it was time to attend the affair and his dress shoes were rather shabby. So, the morning of the big event he decided that a good coat of black paint would make them look just dandy since the shoe polish had not done the trick. It came time to leave and his shoes were still not dry, but he wasn’t worried since they looked so good and the ferry ride would afford him another couple of hours of drying time. They crossed the ferry and then walked to the fancy Empress Hotel where the affair was to take place. They crossed over the massive lawn on their way to the door. When they arrived at the door my father looked down and he noticed that they must have just mowed the lawn, as his snazzy black shoes looked more like fuzzy green slippers and they stayed that way as the grass was firmly embedded in the good coat of paint......luckily my father had a great sense of humor and was able to still enjoy the evening.
